At the age of seven, Alex Salgado, senior, already knew that her passion for soccer was something that she wanted to continue throughout her life. Salgado even says she may want to later join an adult league after her time at UIC, where she has committed to play Division I soccer.

“I never would have gotten this far if it weren’t for the support from my team, family, and my biggest mentor, my father,” says Alex. Though Salgado claims he wasn’t always on board with the idea of her playing the rough game with boys, he now motivates her every day to go to practice, train, and always do her best.

At the age of seven, Alex Salgado, senior, already knew that her passion for soccer was something that she wanted to continue throughout her life.

“Juggling school while keeping up my soccer career is often times difficult. I find time whenever I can to get my work done,” she says. Salgado travels regularly with club team, Sockers FC Chicago. The team is a member of the Elite Clubs National League, where Alex competes against the most elite female players in the country.

Though it is challenging to be a competitive soccer player and an involved student, Alex Salgado’s commitment to both is the reason she will excel as a student- athlete during her time at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Alex would like to thank her father for his undying support towards her soccer career.

Salgado shared the story of the day she verbally committed to UIC mentioning that it was her brother’s birthday, making the day even more memorable for her and her family.

“I was overjoyed to tell my family and team who were equally excited for me. It was my father’s encouragement to never stop trying to get better that got me to where I am today.”

For anyone striving to play a sport in college someday, Alex has a few suggestions. She encourages sending emails to college coaches inviting them to come and watch a game, going to camps, attending showcases, and of course just performing the best possible. Alex has come so far as an athlete and never lets anything hold her back.

She has worked very hard to be the player that she is today and is getting rewarded with what she deserves. We wish Alex the best of luck at UIC and hope that she represents Glenbard West in all of her future soccer endeavors!
