Winter Music Convo Tomorrow, December 8th
Period 2, December 2nd, the Winter Music Convocation will be held.
While the fall pep rally recognized the accomplishments of the fall athletic season, the Winter Music Convo is an opportunity for the music students of Glenbard West to show what they have accomplished through months of rehearsals and practice hours.
Just as other sports teams at West have worked extremely hard to achieve the success they found this season, the music students have been completely dedicated to putting on a great show as well. While attending the Convo, the student body has the opportunity to appreciate the musical talent of their fellow Glenbard West students.
The groups performing at the Convo include the Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Advanced Treble Choir, and the Chamber Choir. All of the musical groups will be playing classical holiday pieces, as well as other selections that will show off their talent and hard work.
The band will be playing a piece entitled “The Night Before Christmas,” accompanied by a reading of the traditional Clement Clark Moore Christmas poem of the same name by Glenbard West teacher Mr. Richmond. Mr. Richmond has been teaching English at West for many years and will be retiring after this year.
The orchestra will be playing a piece entitled “Praeludium and Allegro,” featuring ILMEA state qualifier, violinist Ellen Maloney, a junior. Another piece, “Masters In This Hall,” will feature violinist Cassie Kim, senior.
Finally, the Advanced Treble and Chamber Choirs will also be performing. Advanced Treble will perform “Peuri Concinite” and “I Want Jesus to Walk With Me,” featuring solos from Kate Wild, junior, and Amira Abuarquob, sophomore. The Chamber Choir will sing “Dulci Jubilo” and “Cantate Domino.”
All three of the musical groups will be performing a holiday medley called “Holiday Season,” featuring “Happy Holiday,” “The Holiday Season,” and “Let It Snow.” That is sure to get everyone excited about the holidays. While the students are excited to play for West, the Convo is only a preview of what they have to offer.
The Winter Music Festival will feature all music groups at West, and will take place on Wednesday, December 9th at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The Glenbard West Music Department is grateful for your attendance, and can’t wait to help you get in the holiday spirit!
