Spring Break: What to do for your “Staycation”
Spring break holds a special place in our hearts: a week long period filled with sunshine, fresh air, and relaxation. Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity for a high-end trip to California or Arizona. So what do you do? You certainly don’t want to waste this valuable time. Here are some exciting activities that you can do locally this spring break.
Glen Ellyn-
Activity: The Prairie path is fabulous for long, smooth bike rides. There are even ice cream shops to stop at along the way!
Restaurant: The Stand is great for a greasy hot dog and fries. Although not overly nutritious, it’s still worth stopping for.
Elmhurst-
Activity: The York Theater is clean, relatively inexpensive, and decorated with paintings from local artists. Not only are there free refills for everything, the movie seats are comfortable and come with cup holders! I recommend seeing the movie “Race” or “Eddie the Eagle” to get inspired and motivated.
Restaurant: Armand’s pizza is cheesy and melts in your mouth. If you want to go crazy, invite a large group of friends and order the two foot long pizza!
Sweet Tooth: The Courageous Bakery is over the top good. The vanilla bean and glazed donuts are rich and moist, a real treat.
Naperville-
Activity: Naperville has a beautiful river walk that winds around trees, grass, and wooden bridges. It’s perfect for a quiet stroll with your family or canine friend.
Restaurant: Have you ever wondered what frog legs taste like? No? They’re actually surprisingly scrumptious. At Hugo’s Frog Bar and Fish House, they’re considered a tender delicacy, a mixture between whitefish and chicken. At $11.75 it’s a little pricey, but definitely worth it. If you want something cheaper to fulfill your taste buds, try the $3.00 hamburger sliders with fries.
Wind field and Various other Places to Eat-
For Twisted Stomachs: Gnarly Knots Pretzels in a Wind field has won many awards for their outstanding menu and products. You can get pretzels stuffed with meat, cheese, and warm cinnamon sugar. Eat them fresh!
Carnival Fanatics: Parker’s has special prices that involve lobster rolls, fried shrimp, thin pizza, and more. But, save room for dessert because it’s a giant homemade stick of maple sugar cotton candy.
Cupcake Lovers: The Vanilla Sugar Bakery has out of this world sweets! Ranging from red velvet to double chocolate, they have a cupcake for everyone. It’s a little overpriced, but better than your average Joe cake shop.
