Make a Difference During ‘Live Life Well Week’
During the week of February 20th through 24th, Glenbard West will be participating in Live Life Well Week, a series of activities to help students, parents, and staff de-stress and to encourage them to make a difference in the world. The point of Live Life Well is that it is a week of activities designed to promote relaxation, self- love, reflection, and general health. It is a time to stay focused on goals in all aspects of life, gain motivation to try new things, and take time to care for yourself.
“That’s a really important thing right now [because] we can get very stressed,” says Ms. Meyers, Student Services Interventionist. “We can get caught up in bad decisions and bad habits and it just keeps us centered on physical and emotional health and well-being.”
This year, Live Life Well Week is focusing on the theme of “Your Actions Matter,” bringing a message to students and staff alike that they can and will make a difference in the world, no matter how large or small.
To Glenbard Student and Community Project Director, Ms. Ross, the importance of Live Life Well Week is that it shows “[y]ou don’t have to be president of your club, your class, or your school [to make a difference]. The actions we take on a day-to-day basis to spread kindness to others can make a difference.”
Live Life Well Week will feature a variety of activities to promote overall health and encourage participants to take action. One of the most exciting activities provided will be a presentation by Drew Dudley, a speaker focusing on leadership.
Glenbard Distric 87 welcomes motivational speaker Drew Dudley to all four of the Glenbard schools. He will be speaking about leadership and connecting with students about the theme of “Your Actions Matter” on Tuesday, February 21st during an in-school convo located at Glenbard West in Beister Gym. He will also be sharing his ideas with anyone who wishes to come to his performance at the College of DuPage in the McAninch Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd.
Drew Dudley’s powerful TED Talk, “Everyday Leadership,” or “Leading with Lollipops,” (see embedded video) focuses on how a person’s actions may play a huge part in other people’s lives without them even realizing it. In fact, this speech was voted “one of the most inspirational Ted Talks ever.”
After making this speech, Drew Dudley went on to make a difference by helping people and organizations from around the world increase their leadership skills. At this point, he has become the founder and Chief Catalyst of Day One Leadership, Inc., showing how far you can get in life with lots of hard work.
Throughout Live Life Well Week, other activities will be hosted at Glenbard West.
Although there is no school on Monday the 20th, the week will begin with students making blankets to donate to nearby hospitals as a part of Project Linus. Pizza will be provided. The activity is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center.
On Tuesday the 21st, students will attend a convo in Beister during the school day to hear from Drew Dudley.
Guided meditation classes will be held during each lunch period on the bridge on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd. Meditation is proven to decrease stress while making you more self aware, happy, and healthy.
On Thursday, Feb. 23rd, participants will be able to be a part of the annual Life Source Blood Drive from 7:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Glenbard West Field House. Additionally, relaxation coloring supplies will be offered to students during their lunch periods.
As a start to Friday the 24th, West Nation/CARES will provide a healthy breakfast in the cafeteria before school for students and staff. Students will be able to play a game of bags during their lunch periods. Students will also be a part of the Fitness Expo during their PE classes.
Live Life Well Week is a perfect chance for people to take a break from their usual routines, relax, and appreciate what they can do for themselves and others. Make a difference, no matter how small; be a part of Live Life Well!
