Godzilla vs. Kong: Is this clash worth Your cash?
One of the most highly anticipated movies to come out this March is a tale of two classic Hollywood villains crossing over for an ultimate battle. Yes, I am talking about Godzilla vs. Kong (if you haven’t seen the trailer, go watch it immediately).
This movie is another installment of the Monsterverse Franchise, famous for making previous movies such as Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2019), and Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019). I’m sure at this point most of us have seen these iconic movie monsters destroy cities on their own time, but the new Godzilla vs. Kong movie will allow for the viewer to witness these titans attempting to destroy each other. Alongside these infamous monstrosities, the cast includes celebrities such as Alexander Skarsgård and Millie Bobby Brown. Since the release dates have been continually extended due to Covid-19 restrictions, anticipation has been building to find the answer to our main question: who will be victorious?
This has sparked lighthearted debates on Twitter, causing the rise in #TeamGodzilla or #TeamKong. BetOnline even made a chart using geotagged Twitter data to determine whether Godzilla or King Kong had more supporters. Based on the results, Godzilla is the clear fan-favorite, having more votes in its favor in 41 states.
In-depth analyses have also been made on YouTube, racking up millions of views, to determine who is most likely to be the last one standing. If you would like to see it for yourself, check out the video titled “GODZILLA vs KONG 2021” by the channel Goji Center. They provide very well-researched comparisons between the two villains’ combat skills. To summarize the analysis, Kong has better arm strength, dexterity, and agility, whereas Godzilla wins in the categories of intimidation, aggression, leg strength, terrain compatibility, and special abilities. Based on these stats, it seems like Godzilla is more likely to prevail, but that is not set in stone.
Now to answer the second most pressing question: does this blockbuster meet the hype? You will just have to find out either in theatres or HBO Max on March 31st.
