Freshman A Football Conference Champions
“One of our main goals this year was to be playing fast, physical, and free,” said Freshman A head football coach Mr. Zander. His team had done exactly that on their way to a conference championship, outscoring their last 8 opponents (OPRF, Downers Grove South, Proviso West, Addison Trail, York, Downers Grove North, Lyons Township, and Hinsdale Central) 358-47 with 3 shutouts. After a blowout 28-0 loss facing a “challenging, and more experienced Marist team,” as assistant coach Mr. Neiss described, the Freshman A Hitters rebounded and finished the season strong with an 8-1 record. Led by their starting running back Mason Ellens, who totaled countless amounts of touchdowns throughout the season, Coach Neiss believed “the team’s confidence had grown and the offense and defense had complimented each other very well” ever since the disappointing first game.
When asked what type of goals he had for his team, Coach Zander expressed that he wanted his team to “continue getting better every week, do the right things daily, and execute their responsibilities.” Both coaches also expressed that they were “excited to see what type of name the freshman made for themselves,” and that they really enjoyed the goal of “helping develop their players for the next levels of high school football.” Congratulations on the Conference Championship!
