Fall Foliage Around Glen Ellyn
Fall can be characterized by the palette of rusty hues that flutter from trees; the array of oranges, reds, and yellows that flood the earth. As the weather cools, it may be tempting to stay indoors, keeping warm by a blanket and enjoying long naps. However, now is one of our last opportunities to take advantage of the warm and colorful patchwork surrounding us. So, make time to go outside.
In Glen Ellyn and the surrounding Dupage towns, there are dozens of forest preserves eager to be explored. These areas are exploding with color and are perfect for long walks or settling down in a cozy sweater on a picnic blanket and reading while absorbing the scenery.
Of course, when you think of fall foliage in Glen Ellyn, Lake Ellyn comes to mind. With the beautiful lake and boathouse as the backdrop, color bursts in the trees. During your lunch period or after school, sit on the Glenbard West bleachers or in Lake Ellyn Park and enjoy the views.
An equally beautiful spot to behold fall foliage is the Morton Arboretum. Although visitors must buy a ticket or be a member, the nearby Arboretum offers countless paths and walks to observe the beautiful autumn leaves. Remember that reservations are still required, so be sure to plan ahead, especially on weekends.
However, if you are looking for a beautiful walk in Glen Ellyn, the Illinois Prairie Path might be perfect. Close to Glenbard West and stretching on for miles, the Prairie Path offers a convenient opportunity to exercise while savoring the scenery.
A little further afield, St. James Farm in Warrenville certainly cannot be excluded from the list of local forest preserves worthy of a visit to enjoy autumn’s gorgeous colors. With wide paths and a backdrop of historic farm buildings, St. James is ideal for biking through the crisp fall air, or simply enjoying a run or walk. As a bonus, St. James connects to the Prairie Path so bikers coming from Glen Ellyn can make a day of it, enjoying the foliage and stopping for a picnic along one of St. James’s tree-lined walkways.
As autumn will soon evolve into winter, this extraordinary weather will last only a while longer. Step outdoors and be active, while taking advantage of the beautiful leaves and refreshing weather.
