The district is bidding farewell to its long-serving superintendent, Dr. David Larson, as he prepares for retirement at the end of 2025. Dr. Larson has dedicated twelve years to the district and has been instrumental in its growth and success. With his retirement a question comes to light, what is the process behind finding a new superintendent at Glenbard.
To fill this crucial leadership position, the district has partnered with BWP and Associates, a consulting firm, to conduct an in depth search for a new superintendent, as mentioned in a communication by the district. This collaborative effort aims to identify highly qualified candidates, receive input from the community and staff, meet the Board’s expectations within the allocated budget, and guide the Board through the selection process, ensuring that the community’s voice is heard and considered.
The new superintendent will oversee 45-square-miles within DuPage county, for comparison San Francisco is slightly bigger sitting at 46.87 square miles. Meeting certain requirements is necessary for candidates: they must hold general administrative certificates, have at least two years of supervisory or administrative experience in schools, and complete a graduate program for the superintendent endorsement, which includes 30 semester hours of specified coursework beyond the master’s level and pass the required certification exam. These prerequisites ensure that the selected candidate is well-qualified and capable of leading the district effectively.
Furthermore, as part of the comprehensive search process, the district will seek input from various stakeholders, including committee members, students, and staff. An online survey was launched on September 9th to gather public opinion from committee members, and the results will be discussed at a board meeting in October. Following this, the district plans to conduct interviews in late November, with candidates expected to visit on December 2nd. This timeline ensures that the selection process is thorough and transparent.
Dr. Larson’s retirement aligns with the seniors’ graduation in 2025, providing a clear timeline for the new superintendent to assume the role. The district is fully committed to facilitating a smooth and effective transition by engaging the community and stakeholders in the selection process. The new superintendent is expected to assume the role at the beginning of the 2026 academic year, allowing for a comprehensive transition plan.
