Mrs. Fleming is very excited to be here at West, and though it’s been a big adjustment for her, she’s enjoying the change.
Mrs. Fleming has had quite the journey in her career. She obtained her English degree at the University of Illinois as well as a masters degree in English and a teaching certificate from Northern Illinois University. She then taught English at York High School and Glenbard East High School. Mrs. Fleming then decided to begin library certification where she needed eighteen hours of graduate-level classes in library sciences. She was inspired to come to West when she heard about the librarian job opening, which prompted her to complete her certification.
Mrs. Fleming has many goals for the library. She shares that she is “really working hard to try to get kids in here outside of class, trying to build a community and make the library sort of the central hub of education.” Another goal of hers is to support all teachers and departments and “make sure information literacy becomes a part of how our students understand information” to prepare students with skills for the world after they graduate high school.
Mrs. Fleming would love to see you at the Elliot Library!
