Hitters Take State Title over Libertyville
Last night in the Northern Illinois University Stadium, Glenbard West Hitter football earned the state title over Libertyville High School 34-28.
The game started out rough, with the opponent scoring a touchdown only a few minutes into the game. However, Glenbard West continuously fought through each setback; Brodner scored to tie the game 7-7.
The game was a back and forth battle until the final quarter, where the Hitters held the ball and their one touchdown lead despite earning four penalties.
The bench stormed the field as the final whistle sounded. Glenbard West finished off an amazing undefeated season with the 7A state title.
Individuals Sam Brodner and Nico Gagliano earned themselves a spot on the Illinois All-State team as well. Brodner, who scored four of the game’s touchdowns, set a new 7A state final record with 264 rushing yards on 28 carries.
It has been an outstanding season for fall sports at Glenbard West. The Hitters are among West’s many teams who have displayed talent and dedication this school year. Thank you Coach Hetlet and the team for demonstrating what it takes to truly be champions, both on and off the field. Glenbard West congratulates you on your win, you deserve it.
