West welcomes new staff members for the 2020-2021 school year: Syedda Mehdi

Syedda Mehdi is a new history teacher at West. She is teaching U.S. History, U.S. Government and Politics, and Contemporary World History classes. Ms. Mehdi has loved social studies from a young age because “her grandfather was a historical author,” and she has had a passion for teaching “as long as [she] can remember,” coming from a line of teachers. She went to Benedictine University and majored in Social Science.

Before coming to West, Ms. Mehdi taught general social studies, world history, and U.S. history classes at a private school in Bridgeview and, interestingly, biology at East Aurora High School. She loves teaching and learning about “all the different cultures, religions, and ways of thinking around the world” because “it [is] so important to learn about how other people live and their perspectives.” Ms. Mehdi “cannot imagine doing anything else” and feels “lucky to be a part of such an amazing community.”
