Are you excited for the World Cup this summer? Well, while you wait you can watch some amazing soccer with the Boys Varsity Soccer Team. The soccer team this year has been pushing new boundaries. After a commanding win against Glenbard North in the Glenbard Cup West continues to show how dominant they have been this season.
The work in practice has clearly come to show on the field with multiple wins over teams in and out of their conference. From the season we have been able to see how they have built a cohesive playing style that flows with them. They also seem to have a great sense of companionship between the players that aids with their playing style. It’s not easy to play with a team spanning three grade levels and to have everyone work together, but it looks like head coach Wicyk has found the winning way.
After the season has come to an end it is clear how the team was composed of some very talented players. Leading Goal scorer Alex Ginder will help lead the line as west looks towards the plays. Ginder with an impressive 17 goals and 20 assists has been dominating this season.
With help from Stefan Aps with 8 goals (the second most) and the outstanding Goalkeeping of Nolan Borgman, West has managed to get a record of 19 wins, 1 draw and 7 losses.

In addition Diego Navarro held the backline firm all season long, and every player put everything they had into every practice and game. Sadly, West’s playoff run came to an end in a defeat against a really strong Schaumburg team. After a great game and a long penalty shoot out West unfortunately lost.
This has been quite an expansive season for the team. They currently sit at 35 ranked in the state of Illinois and it really shows how much they are dedicated to the team. With the season coming to an end it is evident how this team has left an impact on the program for the future players.
With the most goals ever scored in a season this year and players getting selected for numerous awards, it is clear how successful of a season it was. We can look forward to a season next year with not only the skill and flair from this season but some new elements coming to the program. In an end of the season banquet Coach Wicyk commented, “I’d rather have players with all heart than players with all skill.”
Everyone could see that the players this year had all the heart in the world.
