Local Holiday Activities to Get in the Spirit
The holiday season is the perfect time to get out and have some fun with friends and family. Glen Ellyn and other surrounding areas are home to various holiday activities to enjoy!
A great event to check out is Illumination, the tree lights at the Morton Arboretum, which runs every day through January 2. Illumination features a mile-long paved path through the winter woods with award-winning lights and projections.
Cosley Zoo, located in Wheaton, is another exciting place to visit this winter. Their Festival of Lights and Tree Sale runs November 25 through December 30. Visitors can buy Christmas trees and holiday decorations while checking out the beautiful lights.
Chicago is also home to many holiday traditions. Be sure to make your way down to Millennium Park to see their famous giant Christmas tree and do some ice skating at the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink. The Rink draws in over 100,000 skaters every year. Skating is free and open to the public.
Christkindlmarket, located in Daley Plaza, is a traditional German market that brings European Christmas traditions to Chicagoans. This unique shopping experience offers typical German food and drinks, along with holiday entertainment. Admission is free, and the shop has a smaller, alternate location in Naper Settlement, Naperville.
Also in Chicago, Macy’s on State Street offers elaborate holiday window displays and patrons can even grab a bite to eat in their famous Walnut Room.
Finally, take a break from shopping this holiday season by seeing the Goodman Theatre’s annual production of A Christmas Carol or the Joffrey Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker.
Whatever event you prefer to attend this holiday season, all of these options are sure to get you in the holiday spirit!
