West welcomes new staff members for the 2020-2021 school year: Laura Wells

Laura Wells is a new English Language Learner (ELL) teacher at West. Here, she teaches ELL Bridge and ELL Study Methods classes. Prior to West, Ms. Wells also has taught ELL English and Study Methods classes at Addison Trail, Glenbard North, and Glenbard East.

Although Ms. Wells always intended to teach, she was temporarily “talked out of [it] by her counselor and mother” and “took a detour […] in the business world for 20 years.” Luckily, her two nieces who are teachers “persuaded [her] to go back to school […] to be a teacher.”

Ms. Wells went to University of Illinois at Chicago where she received her bachelor’s degree in Media and Communications, as well as National Louis University where she earned her master’s degree in Secondary Education and Teaching. As an ELL teacher, Ms. Wells loves to see her “students’ knowledge of English and […] culture here in the U.S. […] continue to grow.” She is “excited for this incredible opportunity.”

Growing up in Lombard, Ms. Wells thought West was a college where she wanted to go, and “little did [she] know that […] [she] would be lucky enough to actually be a teacher here!”
