Julia Furukawa is Glenbard West’s new Assistant Librarian. Her position as she described it entails working along with Ms. Hollander to “curate the collection, create displays, teach classes (especially on research and information literacy), and support students and teachers.” Before joining the West staff, Mrs. Furukawa was a substitute teacher for District 87 between 2018 and 2020.

Mrs. Furukawa received her BA (Bachelor of the Arts) degree from Illinois State University in 2017 and MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign- where she also earned her Professional Educator’s License in 2021. She is actively working on an ESL (English as a Second Language) endorsement through Elmhurst University; Mrs. Furukawa states that she “[expects] to complete [the program] this spring.”

As for interests, Mrs. Furukawa enjoys “baking, listening to podcasts, and pursuing a series of hobbies/obsessions”, with her most recent hobby being bookbinding. She also loves to read.

Glenbard West is very thankful for Mrs. Furukawa and the great addition she will make to our library!
