On September 18, 2019, Girls Varsity Volleyball played Downers Grove North at home in Biester Gym, losing in 3 sets. After their defeat in the first set (11-25), the girls rallied together for their comeback in the second set with spirit and intensity (winning 25-18) to take the game the extra mile. However, Downers Grove North beat West (22-25) in the third set. Glenbard West’s Varsity team was led by senior captains Anna Sear, Virginia Curtis, and Katie Langan.

This game was particularly meaningful for some West players who were facing the school of their club volleyball teammate, Beth Dunlap, who passed away earlier this year after a car accident. The girls rallied behind their peers at DGN by all wearing white shirts that read “#BethStrong” during their warmups for the game. In addition, those who knew her wore a red ribbon on their shoelaces in her honor.

Regardless of the outcome, it was a special game for both teams that allowed two communities to come together over a shared bond for their fallen teammate and love for the game.
